Prop firms whose payouts run weekly, daily or on demand after the first withdrawal, with each program's first-payout rule, ongoing frequency, split at that frequency and methods, plus the buffers, caps and consistency checks that apply.
This guide explains how Topstep pays traders on its Express Funded Account (XFA) and Live Funded Account (LFA): when you qualify for a payout, how much you can take each time, the 90% split and the fees on each payout rail. We checked November 2026 against Topstep's help-center payout policy and product pages, using the facts in our Topstep review. The XFA is a simulated account, and Topstep's rules change from time to time, so confirm current terms in your dashboard before you request.
Topstep payout terms at a glance
| Term | Topstep |
|---|---|
| First payout | Standard path: five winning days of $150+; Consistency path: three traded days with best day ≤40% of net profit |
| Frequency | No fixed schedule; LFA daily payouts after 30 winning days of $150+ |
| Minimum | $125 per request |
| Caps | Up to 50% of balance per request; $2,000 / $3,000 / $5,000 (Standard) or $3,000 / $4,000 / $6,000 (Consistency) for 50K / 100K / 150K; LFA not capped |
| Profit split | 90/10 |
| Methods | Prop-to-brokerage, Aeropay, ACH (US); Wise (China, Canada, UK); international wire |
| Processing time | Approval 1 to 3 business days; then instant (Aeropay) to 5 to 10 business days (wire) |
| Fee refund | No; Topstep says most fees are non-refundable |
When is the first payout?
Topstep does not use a calendar date. Instead, you qualify by trading days, and the rule depends on which XFA payout path you are on:
- Standard path: five winning days of $150 or more. They do not need to be consecutive.
- Consistency path: three traded days, with your largest winning day at 40% or less of net profit in the payout window.
Keep in mind what comes before the XFA. You first pass the Trading Combine, then (on the Standard Combine path) pay a $149 activation fee per XFA. The No Activation Fee path skips that fee but costs more each month during the Combine. The XFA starts at a $0 balance, so everything you can withdraw is profit made in the funded account.
How often can you withdraw?
XFA payouts have no fixed schedule. Once you meet the qualifying condition for your path, you can request, and the cycle restarts for the next payout window. How often you are paid therefore depends on how quickly you rebuild qualifying days.
The LFA works differently. Payouts there are not capped, and daily payouts unlock after 30 winning days of $150 or more in the live account. Only selected traders are called up: Topstep's own disclosures say 0.71% of XFA traders were moved to a live account, and 33.3% of funded participants received a payout in 2025.
Profit split explained
Topstep pays 90/10: you keep 90% of each approved request. The bigger limit in practice is how much of the balance you may request. Each XFA request can be up to 50% of the balance, subject to the per-request cap for your size and path.
Worked example (100K, Standard path). Your XFA balance is $5,000 after five qualifying days.
- 50% of the balance is $5,000 × 0.50 = $2,500, which is under the $3,000 Standard cap for a 100K.
- At 90%, you receive $2,500 × 0.90 = $2,250.
- If you choose ACH, the $30 fee applies; if it comes out of the transfer, that leaves $2,220.
Same balance on a 50K, Standard path. 50% would again be $2,500, but the 50K cap is $2,000, so the request is limited to $2,000 and you receive $2,000 × 0.90 = $1,800. The rest stays in the account as buffer. Our profit calculator can run your own figures.
A limited-time Topstep offer doubles XFA payout caps for Combines bought with the optional daily loss limit ("Responsible Trading") at checkout. Check whether it applied to your purchase.
Payout methods and fees
| Method | Who | Fee | Timing after approval |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prop-to-brokerage | US | None | Same day if requested by 12 pm CT |
| Aeropay | US | No Topstep fee | Instant |
| ACH | US | $30 | 1 to 3 business days |
| Wise | China, Canada, UK | Not published in our review | Not published in our review |
| International wire | Outside the US | $30 | 5 to 10 business days |
Topstep's internal approval can take 1 to 3 business days before any of these timings start. US traders who want money quickly and without fees will usually look at Aeropay or prop-to-brokerage; international traders should budget for the $30 wire fee and the longer transfer time.
Rules that can block or reduce a payout
- Maximum loss limit: in the XFA the MLL starts at −$2,000 on a 50K and locks at $0 once the balance reaches $2,000. It trails the end-of-day balance but is monitored in real time, so an intraday dip through it liquidates the account. Withdrawing pulls your balance closer to the floor. See static vs trailing drawdown.
- Consistency: on the Consistency payout path, your largest winning day must be 40% or less of net profit in each window. One outsized day delays the request. See prop firm consistency rules.
- Caps: the 50% of balance limit and the per-size caps mean a strong month may take several requests to withdraw.
- News: trading is restricted for a short period around Tier 1 releases, and deliberately trading full size into a scheduled major release is prohibited. We could not verify the exact window.
- Overnight holding and inactivity: all positions must be closed by 3:10 pm CT each weekday, and XFAs with no activity for more than 30 days may be closed.
- Prohibited conduct: exploiting simulated fills, cross-account hedging, account stacking and trading for others are banned.
- Eligibility: payouts depend on citizenship and residency rules. About 25 countries can earn XFAs but not live accounts, and some countries are excluded entirely.
Step-by-step: how to request a payout
- Count your qualifying days for your path: five $150+ winning days (Standard) or three traded days with best day ≤40% (Consistency).
- Check your balance and work out 50% of it, then compare it with your size's cap.
- Make sure you are flat; positions must be closed by 3:10 pm CT anyway.
- Submit the request from your Topstep dashboard for at least $125.
- Pick a payout method. US traders requesting prop-to-brokerage before 12 pm CT can be paid the same day.
- Allow 1 to 3 business days for approval, plus the transfer time for your method.
Before you request a payout checklist
- Check how far your balance will sit above the MLL after the withdrawal. Our drawdown calculator helps.
- Confirm your qualifying days and, on the Consistency path, your best-day ratio.
- Estimate your take-home at 90% with the profit calculator.
- Choose a method with the fee and timing you want, and check it is available where you live.
- Note whether your Combine included the doubled-cap offer.
